Document legalisation - Apostille
One of the most popular document legalisation services we provide is obtaining an Apostille. An Apostille is a certificate from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, stamped or sealed onto the original document, which confirms that the document is genuine and authenticates it for use in another country. It can only be obtained in the country of the document's origin. You may need an Apostille if you are planning to use your British document abroad for official purposes.
The Apostille contains information on the document's country of origin, the signatures on the document and date and place of issue, as well as the Apostille number. The Apostille treaty was drafted in Hague in 1961 and is in force for all members of the EU.
The legalisation process
You will need to provide us with an original copy of your document. However, not all documents can be legalised so please contact us first via e-mail or phone to confirm. Then you can either bring it in person to the office, located in Manchester city centre, or send it to us using recorded post for security. Photocopies are not accepted. Once we receive the document we will confirm to you that we have got it and then send it along with an application form to the FCO. The process usually takes around a week and costs 75£. When we receive the apostilled document back we will forward it safely to you. If you need us to send the document abroad the price will be 85£ including secure international postage.
You can also get an Apostille on a translation, however it may be cheaper and easier for you to approach the Embassy and ask for consular legalisation. Each embassy has its own procedures so please contact them directly for details.
We can also assist you with obtaining a certification of the translation from a Notary.
